Story
Phelps Cattle Co. was officially established in 2024, but our roots in cattle go back much further. Lance and Jana have dabbled in owning beef cattle off and on since 2005, learning the rhythms of ranch life and building a deep respect for hard work, good stock, and time spent outdoors.
In 2024, the dream began to take clearer shape when they purchased five heavy-bred cows from Diamond P Farms, owned by Lance's Dad and Brother. It was a meaningful start-family cattle, strong genetics, and a solid foundation -but it still felt like something was missing.
Then in 2025, Jana mentioned her desire to add Highland cattle to the operation. Lance hesitated just a bit... but before long, they decided to jump in with both feet. A trip to Texas was planned with the intention of buying two Highlands. They returned home with an entire fold of beautiful Highland cows-and just like that, everything changed.
While the beef cattle operation continues to grow, the Highland cattle have become something more. They are a source of peace, joy, and a kind of therapy that only comes from slow mornings, fluffy cows, and time spent together on the land.
What started as a small cattle venture has grown into a passion, a lifestyle, and a family legacy-one fluffy cow at a time.
